Ticket to Work Program and Social Security Disability benefits

Disabilities can impact different individuals in different ways. While one person may suffer from a permanent physical ailment that limits their capacity to move, another may suffer from a mental illness that prevents them from successfully interacting with other individuals. California residents who suffer from disabilities may be able to secure disability benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Social Security Administration does offer disabled individuals opportunities to find gainful employment that accommodates their physical, mental and emotional needs. The Ticket to Work program exists to help men and women who receive disability benefits with finding job training and placement services that may help them work toward self-sufficiency.

The Ticket to Work program is voluntary, which means that a disability benefits recipient is not required to participate. Through the program, a person is given case-specific support to identify what services they may require to get back into the workforce. Those services can include, but are not limited to, educational services, job training, career identification and more.

A person who goes through the Ticket to Work program will not automatically have their disability benefits taken away. One of the goals of the program is to help disabled individuals work toward self-sufficiency and to reduce their need for support from government programs. Not everyone may have success with the Ticket to Work program, although those who do may gain important information about options they have to earn their own incomes. As with all Social Security disability benefits issues, individuals with questions about the Ticket to Work program may need to get more information about their own unique circumstances.
